I’ve always thought that hitchhiking is a brilliant way to get around. Why not use up our spare space in cars to give others a lift? When I was at university it was commonplace to see hitchhikers on the road. I even used to pick them up myself now and then. Unfortunately, as the years have passed, the hikers have faded away as people became more and more wary of their safety – both drivers and hikers alike.
