I recently read this article written by Deepak Chopra and was inspired. In it he talks about the importance of developing our mind to become our ally, and to not let it overwhelm us as our enemy. In everyday life almost all our suffering is related to our thoughts. So many of us obsess and worry needlessly. A mentor of mine once told me that worrying is praying for what you don’t want to happen – I like that idea, it’s very true.
Stress is the body’s way of reacting to a challenge. In days of old it was a useful reaction that set off the sympathetic nervous system resulting in a fight or flight response. However, today that ‘fight or flight’ response is often unnecessary.
Because we live in a rather over-stimulated world, where we face many challenges, it is all too easy to get overloaded and stressed out. And once we are stressed, it can be difficult to get back to a healthy equilibrium.
